History
Manicures began 5,000 years ago. In Arab countries, henna was used for manicure. The term mehendi, used synonymously for henna, henna being an Arabic word, derives from the Sanskrit mehandika. Empress Dowager Cixi was known to keep very long naturally-grown nails. Chinese royalty prided themselves in keeping very long nails as a sign of well to do. In today china most women keep well manicured hands except for the peasants working the field.

Today, Vietnamese manicurists have managed to combine Chinese and French influence and have succeeded in developing a highly sophisticated business that extends throughout the US as well as Europe. It is said that no one can match their skills in the manicure field.

French manicure is designed to resemble natural nails, and are characterized by natural pink base nails with white tips. The tips of the nails are painted white while the rest of the nails are polished in a pink or a suitable nude shade. French manicures may have originated in 18th-century Paris and were popular in the 1920s and 1930s.

Vietnamese manicure, in most shops, combine regular manicure with hand and forearm massage, hot paraffin dips and hand whirlpool, an attractive break in the daily routine of busy housewives and female students.

Nail Color and Decoration reflect the mood and personality of the wearer. Some women color their nails according to the season, purple is common in the fall, austere black in the winter, and other colors in between.
